“Attention, Mr Leeds, Mr Mustafa, Mr Leoso and Mr Tsu, come to the lounge please.”

    "ok sounds….interesting let’s go."

“OK, Anja, you have the con. You are in charge till I get back. Mr Glick, you, Mr Tsu, and Sir Freddy will see about our cargo. Mr Leoso, Mr Mustafa, and Mr Leeds, you’re with me. Don’t wear anything with the ship or company insignia on it. Oh and since we are staying inside the extrality line, pack a side arm.”

Once everyone else is there, the captain is there waiting. “Well, we’ve heard back from our planetary factor. No go on renting a ship as of yet. So, we are going to have to do this the old fashioned way.”
“The Real Slim Shady’s?” asks Leoso
    “Yes…”
"Does that mean…..what Does that mean?" asks Hamilton.
“The Real Slim Shady’s is a dive bar where a lot of pilots and ship owners hang out. Kind of typical.”
“Yeah, you are pretty sure of finding a more wretched hive of scum and villainy regardless of where you go,”
    “Dude, that’s Brubek’s”
OOC Brubek’s is an almost galaxy wide chain restaurant scattered pretty much everywhere. There was one on Regina. Funny thing is, they all have the EXACT SAME floor plan. Though some may be a bit bigger depending how busy the star port is.
Brubek’s motto is something like, no matter where you go, you’re always at home.
You all hitch a ride with one of the cutters transporting a cargo pod away from your ship. Sir Freddy and his team go one way, and you and the rest of the Captain’s team go another. Its surprising in that, you always see the captain in uniform. He’s wearing old boots, jeans, and a leather jacket with various patches on it, and a black t shirt.
The bar itself isn’t that bad. Country music is playing and there are clusters of people, human and non human scattered at various tables.
Song playing as you enter the bar:“Stand by your Vargr…”
t actually isn’t that bad a place. There are a number of tables and booths as well as a bar.
It isn’t long before someone approaches your group. He goes up to the captain and says, “Is that you Benke? Its been a while since you’ve been here.”
Captain Benke returns a greeting and quickly explains that he doesn’t make planetfall very often. He also explains, he is looking to charter a ship for an express cargo.
    The man’s name is
Fulton Crathca. He says there aren’t many charters available right now. But he should check out Captain Choin Garson of the Galaxina. She’s a 400ton free trader.

Just then, 4 guys come in. All a bit burly with bushy hair and beards.
Leoso says,”Aw shit. The Wülf brothers. There’s like a dozen of them. They all own their own ship or crew each other’s ships. And their freaking cousins and shit knows who else are part of their crews as well.”
Mustafa adds, “Yeah, that’s Bjorn. I think he’s the 3rd brother. These guys are from the Sword Worlds and run trade all over the “southern” half of the Marches. Well, having family as your crew means you can exploit them as much as possible.”
Captain Benke turns towards you and Leoso and Mustafa. He doesn’t say anything but the expression on his face says, FRACK!!
Captain Benke is still turned towards you when the one of the brothers yells, “Benke!! Is dat you!! Vat are you doing here? I haven’t seen you in ages! “
“Helloooo Bjorn. How are you? How’s your brother Sigmund and the rest?” asks Captain Benke
“Ah, dey are fine. Und I finally did have the slug removed. Took a vile to find a doctor who could do it.”
Benke just smiles and says, “Next time, I’ll make sure and aim for your head.”
Bjorn just laughs. “You aren’t dat good a shot. You got lucky the last time.”
They continue on like this for awhile. Bjorn comments that he saw a notice about hiring and express cargo ship for one shipment only. He says he has a ship but Benke says no, we have it all under control now.
Leoso whispers to you, “I wouldn’t trust them to deliver a turd. Yeah, they get shit done and there. But, some of it is of questionable legality.”

Hamilton has a feeling someone is trying to be stealthy and come up behind him. He spins around and draws his gun at the same time...

The guy standing behind Hamilton was holding a bar stool. He just smiles and says, “Here, have a seat. Stay a while.”
The bartender pulls out an 8gauge shotgun and cocks it. CHA CHACK!!  “They’ll be no trouble here, right boys?”
Benke says, “Nope, we’re not starting anything. How about you?”
    Bjorn replies, “Nu. Not oos.”

Hamilton puts his gun away and turns to the bartender.

Benke says, “Well, I’m afraid we must be going. See you boys around sometime.”

"Good thing you had that with you. Even better we're still on the star port. If we have to leave the grounds, you could get into trouble for having that. The law level on this planet is nothing to joke about."
After you get out of the bar. Benke comments. “Well shit. That explains why we have had no takers on our chartering attempts. These assholes have messed with us. We’re going to have to see Captain Garson and see what we can work out with him. “

It takes a bit but you find the location of the Galaxina. Its closed up (like the docking bay in Mos Eisley) There is a door to an office. You can see an older guy behind a desk talking to a woman in ship’s overalls. He sees you and the rest of your party and lets them in.  “What can I do for you?”

Captain Benke asks,” Are you Captain Garson?”
“Why yes, I am. Are you interested in the Galaxina?”
“Yes, but we are looking for a charter.”
“Well, she’s not for hire actually, she’s for sale. I’m looking to retire.”

"Well, we may be interested in buying. We need to replace a ship. I'm Captain Benke of Spinward Transport."

As you get to the Galaxina, the Chief and Mr/ Glick show up. They have some time and came for the walk through.  (I’ll send you a detailed layout later with the ship key) He does mention one thing, “These ships had a rather large parts and supply storage. A few years back, I got rid of most of that and added a 3D machining printer to make parts. That gave me room to upgrade the J drive to Jump 3. Standard on these ships is J2. As long as your computer is running and you have raw materials, you can “print” any parts you may need. Yes it cost me but, we did stuff on the boarder. You don’t want to have to scourge for parts out there. There are some things though, that you just can’t print. There is still a sizable machine shop with lath and stuff. The sick bay, besides a hospital bed has a five year old autodoc with surgery programs. Again, gotta take care of people out on the frontier. “

After a while Captain Benke says, “Let me talk to my crew for a second.”
    Takes you outside.
“Well, we do need to replace the Celine Ventoux. But, this is much bigger than she was. Additionally, once you guys get back to Marastan, you’ll need to meet up with us on Squanine. And, I’m not to keen on being the writer of a several million credit check for a ship I know nothing about. And losing all of you guys to this ship when I need you on mine.”
Leoso says, “What about the Brookhurst? She’s due to pass through soon. I bet Mr. Glick knows her itinerary. We could borrow a couple of crew from her and send a couple back to the Vanday.”
“Not a bad idea. But I have something else. I’m going to see if I can talk this guy into a check ride from here to Marastan. I’ll leave it to you guys to evaluate this ship and report to Mr Creek when you guys get there. I’ll send a message off to him now. It will get there a day or maybe hours before you do giving him a heads up. If it passes, then I will authorize him to make payment on this ship. Mostly because, I saw the Celine, and really, I don’t think she’s salvageable. I’m going to bet that the insurance company writes her off as a total loss. We can use that money towards this ship. But it will be up to you guys to evaluate her. I have to get back to the Vanday and continue on our run. So, should the Galaxina be space worthy, and we can borrow someone from the Brookhurst, who wants to stay on the Galaxina and who wants to go back to the Vanday?”

What he doesn’t mention is, Mr Leoso is NOT in possession of a limited masters license. He has a limited mates license so he can’t technically command. But once you get to Marastan and pick up Mr Creek, he does have a license. Meanwhile, Mr Leoso has to study and take the masters exam once your team arrives on Squanine. This will effectively make Mr Leoso a captain. Granted, not really the type of command he was hoping for, but, gotta take what you can get. Though, this won’t sit will with Claudia Kinver, pilot first shift, who actually out ranks him. But, she doesn’t have the right licenses.

Hamilton is the first to speak up saying, "I’ll go with the Galaxina. She’s gonna need at least one engineer. And it’s an Adventure!"

After talking with Captain Garson he is agreeable to the trip-test flight. He finds it rather prudent that you would want to fly the ship on an actual run. They work out the costs involved and who pays for what. He adds an additional stipulation, the woman who is with him is named Olga Wootan. She is/was part of his crew. Would they consider taking her on?

“Actually, her resume is pretty impressive. She’s got a cargo master’ certificate. Basic and advanced hazmat certificates; Certified medical technician (paramedic), Sensor op certificate, grav loader and forklift operator certificates and she can drive pretty much anything from a motorcycle to an air raft.”

"it would be nice to have someone who knows the Galaxina's quirks and all."

Captain Benke adds, “I’ve forwarded her info to Mr Glick. He’ll check on her references and if she pans out, she’ll be on the Galaxina. “

Cpatain Benke comes back and says,”Well, I think we have an agreement. And if it all checks out, we will purchase your ship and you can go off and retire. We will also hire your former crew member. We will haul a test cargo, mostly because we really need to get this item to Marastan. It will be the only cargo on board and as you are still the owner/captain, we will need you aboard. Mr Leoso here will act as our agent and the rest of the crew will submit reports on the findings of the ship”

"There is something else I need to mention to you Captain Garson, the test cargo we are hauling is high priority and high security. Consequently, we may need to test out the offensive and defensive capabilities of the Galaxina. We've made arrangements for additional security personnel. I'll give yo the full details and disclosures so you know what we are all getting into."

"Oh a bit of excitement on my final voyage.  Yeah I'm game. I think you'll find the Gal has some surprises..."

For now, it will be you and Mr. Tsu. This ship has a minimum crew of 2 in an emergency. Normal crew is 7. Captain-Pilot. Navigator-copilot. Two engineers, Purser-steward for passengers, Cargo handler-gunner there is one turret installed, and another cargo handler. Captain and navigator have single rooms. Purser steward has a single on the passenger deck-since he has to deal with them. The other two rooms are doubles.

There are six passenger cabins. Four singles and two double occupancy. You could squeeze a bigger bed into a single room for a couple. but it would be a bit cozy. This ship is 30 years old. But a lot of things have been upgraded. New jump drive - only 5 years old. New life support system. Took out the parts room for the machine printer. It was completely overhauled 5 years ago and that’s when he did these modifications. Some of this stuff is still under warranty.

Meanwhile, the replacement cargo shows up and has been met with a security escort.

    Shortly thereafter, loading has begun.

It is a pretty standard pre flight checklist. The crew for this trip will be Captain Garson- pilot in command, Mr Leoso-copilot navigator, Mr Tsu as senior engineer, Mr Leeds as Jr engineer, Olga Wootan as cargo master and steward, Mr Mustafa as freight handler and gunner.

“We will need another pilot and cargo handler - steward. Mr Glick has already sent a message to Squanine for the Brookhurst. We will either transfer crew there or hire. Mr Creek will be waiting for you once you get back to Marastan. He will act as Pilot in command until you get to Squanine. Mr Glick has also seen about cargo from Marastan to Squanine so that trip won’t be a total drain. Well, looks like we have a new ship for the line. Providing it all checks out.”
The “truck” backs up to the cargo door, they unbolt the cargo container from the wheels, and slide it onto a grav rail. They then maneuver it into place.

You can see Olga steering the cargo into place.
Captain Benke and Mr. Glick are hitching a ride on a cargo pod up to the Vanday. “Good luck, see you on Squanine.”
Captain Garson, Mr Leoso, Olga, and Wallace (Mustafa) inspect all the cargo lashings. In as much as this is a replacement voyage, the company would be on the hook for 100% of the trip.  But, Sir Freddy is picking up the costs for a lot of it. “The Empire sees this as an investment in the stability of one of its members.”
Besides Sir Freddy, there are eight others on board. They are also having their tab picked up. So this journey comes out even. No profit, but no loss. Five of them Jamkes Frankle, Olton Soro, Kodash, Ivan Goodofson, and Lin Jamabo, are Scout security personnel; Clemintine Boromso is from the Ministry Of Commerce, the other, Oshiri Tanu is from the Ministry Of Justice.
Everyone does a very thorough preflight check.

    “Ten, nine, eight…”
    “…Ignition!”
The whole time you have heard the M Drive spooling up and surprisingly, its a smooth lift off and acceleration. Not unlike a plane take off.”

After 35 hours, “Hamster, start spooling up the jump drive. Jump in five hours.”
It normally doesn’t take that long but its your first time with this ship into jump. There is a long check list that you want to make sure and double check.
Some time later: “Hamster, I’m all green lights. How about you? “

“yup. I’m all green here too. Like a Christmas tree!”
“OK then, all hands, stand by for jump. Five , four, three, two , one, JUMP!!”
