Palique is the home of a member or members of the Imperial Nobility, a narrow class of persons at the upper strata of Imperial society who hold noble rank.
- It contains the estate of an Imperial knight.
- It contains the fiefdom of an Imperial count.
- This world is the fiefdom of a minor duke.

Pallique is an ice-capped planet with only a trace oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere; its eccentric orbit results in a highly variable climate.
- The Palique system contains two extremely rich asteroid belts which provided the primary draw for settlement and development. Palique itself is a captured planet; its eccentric orbit is inclined almost perpendicularly to the system's ecliptic plane. Palique suffers a series of planetary impacts twice each local year as the planet passes through one of the planetoid belts. As a result of the navigation hazards the IISS has registered the world as an Amber Zone.
Hamilton is again on duty when you get out of jump. In as much as you also have Engineer, Power plant, You will stay around to help out Braga Egerts. He is the M Drive and Powerplant Engineer. And he will need all your help as you hear,”All hands, This is Captain Benke. As a precaution keep all EVA equipment at the ready. Our destination is about to enter the local asteroid belt. We want to get this done as fast as possible. Engineering, stand by for a series of heavy breaking and thrusting maneuvers as we try to dodge these.”
It’s six hours later, in the middle of third shift when you hear, “All hands all hands, we have picked up a distress call from an asteroid mining ship. Off watch crew members stand by for rescue operations.”
It's not long before they have everyone not on duty assemble in the briefing room. "it looks like a lighter hit an asteroid and sent it into a mining ship. The lighter is ok but we are going after the miner. Any volunteers?"
Actually, I shouldn’t call it a lighter. That is something different. More of a short range cargo hauler. A frame with engines and cargo underneath. Similar to a cutter. They bring out the new cargo and take away the arriving cargo. Look kind of like this:
Has a pilot seat, and not much else. The ship in distress is a converted scout ship.
"I'll go."
“Alright Hamster!! “ Eventually you end up with Johnson Mustafa, medic; Matt Chew, electrician; Branwen Falls, pilot. He can pilot a ship’s boat, which is what you will be using.
The Vanday carries two of these. One for cargo and one for personnel. They are very similar to the cargo haulers that come out to meet the ship and take cargo to and from.
It doesn't show the airlock on the back end. Though this one is the cargo one. The pilot will be in the cockpit. Everyone else will be in Vaccsuits in the cargo area.
As you approach Mustafa is looking out a view port. He calls out, "Shit! She's tumbling. Ok, I'm going first and I'll secure a line and bring Hamster across. We'll get inside and it will be up to Hamster to get the ship under control and then the hauler can dock. Any questions?"
The aft hatch on the transport is now fully open. The the mining ship Dapper Duchess is fully visible. She has had part of her dorsal hull smacked in. She is spinning around, (like the Discovery in 2010). Which brings to mind, Mustafa asks,”You don’t get motion sickness do you? Oh, probably not since you’re an official spacer now. But, This can be a little disorienting. I’ll go across with a line. I’ll pull you to me once we are there. Focus on the part that’s not spinning because you sure don’t want to barf in your helmet. Got it?”
Mustafa says,” Dapper Duchess, this is Vanday rescue party. We are preparing to initiate rescue procedures. Do you have any casualties? If so, what are their injuries.”
Very muffled, “Yes, The Captain was on the bridge when the lighter hit us. He is unconscious. Ship is depressurized and we are all in vacc suits. His status is unknown. Power plant is off line and we can’t get the hatch to the bridge open. So … … of…injuries.”
Mustafa looks at you and mouths, Crap. "OK Dapper Duchess, rescue party is enroute. Stand by to receive boarders.”
“Affirmative Vanday. We a.. stand… air lock…awaiting… …over.”
audio only to Hamilton, “Once we get aboard, I will have to check the exterior of the cockpit. I’ll look in through the window. See if I can see the captain. Depending on how he is and how the bridge is, we’ll formulate a plan. Got it?”
"Got it."
“OK, here we go!” Mustafa exits the hauler. He has a small propulsion pack. It takes him about 10 minutes for him to get there. All the while, he is humming to himself. You seem to recall he was in the Scout Service at one point.
“OK I’m here. Or should it be there? Hamster, I am going to start bringing you over. Copy?”
"Do you copy?"
"Copy, ready when you are. Over"
“Roger.”
YANK!! oh yes, you feel a good tug. He hooked a carbiner on the D ring on the front of your vac suit and played out the line as he went along. Now, he is pulling you toward him.
“Hamster, I’m just reeling it in. So any velocity is your own momentum. Put your feet forward so you can land feet first and you don’t slam into the ship and frack yourself up.”

Hamilton and Mustafa both crawl along the top of the ship to the view ports. They can see someone floating around in the cockpit. As well as some blood floating around. “It looks like he wasn’t strapped in when the collision occurred. He’s floating around and looks like he has a head trauma. The bridge looks to still be pressurized.” To Hamilton he says,”Check the top of the hull and tell me what you think.”
Whatever hit the hull has breached the hull. Hamilton has the tools to patch it. The impact and the decompression jammed one of the hatches; trapping the other crewman. Fortunately, he had a vacc suit on and was able to radio for help. This ship only has two crew. Most often they only have one.
What Hamilton will need to do is, seal the hull, enter the ship, re-pressurize it, get the power plant going again, fire the maneuver jets to stop the spinning, and then let the hauler dock with the ship. Simple.,,
Once the ship is re-pressurized, Hamilton and Matt Chew can get the power going again. Mustafa will access the bridge and see how the pilot is. Once the power plant is going, Hamilton will have to take control of the ship and bring it under control. Then you can see about freeing the other trapped crewman.
After about an hour (and several success rolls) Hamilton has sealed the hull and is ready to repressurize the ship.
Matt has come across and helped you from the inside, where he could, to help you fix the hull. He’s an electrician not an engineer though. He has already started repair on the power plant. Mustafa is checking the bridge hatch. “Just waiting on you Hamster.”
Hull is re-pressurized and holding!!
Now, Mustafa has gone into the bridge.
Power plant is up, ship is re-pressurized. Mustafa is in treating the injured pilot. Matt has managed to free the trapped crewman.
"COOL! OKFire the maneuvering jets to stop the spin then get the hauler to dock with the ship"
(FAIL!!)
“HAMSTER!! STOP THE SPINNING, NOT MAKE IT FASTER!!
The Vanday has moved off as it still has to meet the cargo haulers. It is keeping in touch when you hear, “Hey you guys, I just heard from the ship. We need to get this shit wrapped up muy fast. An asteroid is heading your way…”
“BARRRRFFFFFFFF!!!!”
“Um, I think we need to get underway, like 5 minutes ago…”
"Right!!" Hamilton gets the ship under control so the hauler can dock with it. He manages to maneuver it so it is safe. The pilot is alive. Serious concussion. The Doctor is taking care of him. Once the haulers start with the cargo loading and unloading, a customs-rescue cutter shows up to take the patient.
Customs comes and takes possession of the mining ship.
Once this is all done, the Vanday is just about ready to leave the system.
Rescue mission successful!!
You get a day without duty. A day off. Though, the ship is outbound. So, while you can’t go anywhere, you do get to sleep in.
